At our farm, we love animals. It is one of the main reasons we started farming and homesteading. One of the greatest blessings in life is that we have raised our children around so many beautiful, different animals.
Over the years, our purpose has shifted, and most of our animals are pets/companions. We hope they bring visitors to our farm great joy, like they do for us.
Speaking of joy, some of our events offer meet-and-greets with the animals. In 2025, the minis and goats will also be available for mini photoshoots.
Lady Bug is our youngest mini and the daughter of Gracie. She has quite the personality. I imagine her as the spoiled child who never heard no from her mother growing up, but in all seriousness, Lady Bug was roughly two years old when we rescued her. She was wild, still nursing, and had stunted growth with crooked legs. You can see she has recovered fully, and don't tell the other minis, but she is my favorite. She is always curious with just a touch of wildness and is the first to come running when I whistle.
Pretty Gracie is the mother of Lady Bug. She sadly has a documented history of abuse. Her mistrust of big people never really leaves her, and I can't blame her when I heard her story. However, she is fantastic with kids and trusts my youngest son the most. We love and accept Gracie for who she is; she can be persuaded with treats - who couldn't be ;). She is a sweet boss mare to whom Sky and Lady Bug are incredibly attached, and we are grateful to have her in our lives.
Sky was a Christmas gift from my husband several years ago. He worked at a feed store part-time, and a woman needed to rehome two minis for financial reasons. He took them both for me, and Sky's friend Joe enjoyed his last golden years safely with us. I don't know much about Sky, but he is a saucy, blue-eyed boy who enjoys playing rough with our girls, and we just love him.
Gideon was the first goat born on our farm in 2020. This handsome guy, who has an October birthday, has brought joy and orneriness to our lives. No wagon or wheelbarrow is safe from Gideon jumping in and watch out because he might just give you a playful headbutt for not giving enough attention.
Rooster born February 2024 on a friend's farm, named after Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw in Top Gun: Maverick, is our goofy, not-so-bright but sweet-as-pie Nubian buck. He may be odorous at times, but you just can't help but love him and his beautiful spots and funny flapping ears.
Pirate! He is currently our only horned goat. Pirate is lovely, tall, and beautiful, marked black and white Alpine wether. Rejected by his mom at birth in April 2023, we fought hard to make sure he grew up handsome, strong, and super sweet, and we can't help but love him. Watch out! He loves scratches and treats and will let you know it.
Registered as Freckles for her lovely little spots on her nose, we can't help but call her Firecracker for her spunky personality. Cute as a button, born in March 2024, Firecracker is an Alpine dairy goat. Her mother was a fantastic milker and loved her time on the milk stand. Perhaps Firecracker will take after her... someday.
Eclipse has a unique story. She was born during the TOTAL eclipse of April 8, 2024. In Ohio, we were in the path of totality, and her momma decided that was the perfect time to push out this big, leggy, beautiful, ALL BLACK, Alpine dairy goat. We got double the show and this special girl to remember it by.
Fluffer-Nutter is our pet bunny. Our kids have fun naming animals around here, and I am pretty open to their suggestions. Hence his name. This guy is sweet and enjoying his best life.
Trooper is our king indoor/outdoor kitty. A May 2017 kitten was born in a friend's barn loft. I had never seen such a fantastic climber and hunter. He loves to show off and run up and down huge and tall trees, but in the colder months, he enjoys snuggling on the couch with my kids. We love this kitty boy. Don't worry. All our cats are fixed. No kittens here.
Cutie Heart was one of six kittens born in my closet in December 2018. We kept four of the kittens and found homes for the mother and other babies. This girl was super unhappy living inside with her siblings and has found herself a happy barn cat. A heated cat box in winter and automatic feeders are just her style, as she lays in warm hay and sunshine.
Panther found us. He was nearly a skeleton and so matted I thought I would have to shave him. Instead, he let my kids brush him a little bit day by day. This boy ate a whole $40 bag of cat food on his own and has moved into our barn loft. He would love to be a house cat, but our current house cats aren't too sure, we will see. He loves pets, especially on his head.
